Martial Arts is more than a sport, its a lifestyle. Use your stay on St. Maarten to find out how Shaolin Kung Fu can both strengthen your mind and body.

Instructor Dayana Mota is an international martial arts competitor and criminologist by profession. She combined her academic knowledge with her Kung Fu skills and created some unique courses.

At the Princess Country Club at Port de Plaisance, she teaches ladies how to defend themselves.

Crew members of the many mega yachts docked in St. Maarten's marinas can participate in a Personal Protection course (leading to a certification), which is not only teaching self defense, but also how to protect VIPs or celebrities on board.

"With juArticle about Dayana Mota in the Daily Herald Newspaperst a few basic self defense moves, most attackers can be deterred." explains Dayana. "And its not a questions of strength."
"Look at me,"  she laughs, "I'm just 5'5" at a 110 pounds. Nobody is ever scarred of me... until they see what I could do if I want to."
"But don't get me wrong: I don't advocate fighting. Avoiding a doggy situation is the goal. If running away works, that's best. If psychology does the job, gr eat. Only if there are no other options left, is physical self defense the right response."

Women of all ages and fitness levels can participate in the Ladies' Self Defense course. The beginner's course will teach in three classes some basic moves, but will also deal with the psychological challenge of a threatening situation. She is certain that the participants will be amazed about their own hidden abilities, once these abilities have been released.

"The less fear you have, the less likely are you to get in trouble. Attackers sense confidence and they don't like it."

She hopes that the initiation course will also encourage ladies to continue developing their skills and learn to enjoy martial arts as a sport. There are side effects, she points out with a smile: "You are going to get fitter, and you are going to loose weight, if you join my classes."

  • Dayana also teaches Shaolin Kung Fu to kids of all ages and has already discovered some great talents amongst the youngsters.
