Right next to the landmark building of The Daily Herald on Bush Road there is a cottage like structure set back from the street which is now home to a brand-new restaurant: Caribbean Feisty Flavors. Only open for a few days, we recently attempted to dine there for lunch - to no avail, because all the parking spots - even in the vicinity - were gone. A second attempt was made, this time at night, where we found tables busy with large parties who were all enjoying their food and the cozy ambiance.
A new eatery filling tables within a few days of opening is unusual... until we heard that the restaurant is the latest venture of Sherlyn Montclair, well known around the island for her passion for cooking. For several years, she has operated a successful catering service with free home delivery and is very much in tune in what connoisseurs of Caribbean cuisine like to find on their plates.
"It has been my dream to run my own restaurants for a long time," explains Sherlyn. " But I'm glad I started first with the catering business."
She points out that with the new professionally equipped kitchen she has at her disposal, the catering will always be the backbone of the operation, releasing her from a lot of worries most other restaurants face. And at the same time, home-delivered food is the best marketing tool to convince customers to try the restaurant.
"That's why I took great care in creating a soft and welcoming atmosphere in the dining room, without overly loud music and harsh lights. Many guests know my food already; now they come for a romantic dinner away from home."
There are comfortable and more formal arrangements in the air-conditioned interior - with a central focus on the well-stocked bar. Outside are rustic benches, inviting to an informal lunch or dinner.
The ever-changing menu is kept small to keep the quality up, and updates are readily available online.
Caribbean Feisty Flavors is the perfect choice for visitors or locals alike who wish to enjoy an authentic Caribbean meal served in a pleasant and welcoming restaurant and not a simple eatery with just snack bar appeal.
